Filezilla Tutorial

Open Filezilla, and click on the "Site manager" Icon in the top left hand corner. In "Site Manager", click on "New Site". Type in your login details for your FTP site. The "Host", "User", and Password Fields are mandantory! You can click on "Rename" to change the name to something more useful like "mysite.com.au". Once you have done this, click on "OK". You can now quickly log on to your FTP access to your web site by clicking on the arrow to the right of the "Site manager" icon, and selecting the site name from the list. Please note, that you only have to do steps 1-4 ONCE. The next steps relate to changing the contents of your web site. The previous steps need only be repeated if you install Filezilla on another computer. To access the site to modify files, click on the arrow to the right of the "Site Manager" icon, and click on your site name. You will be logged in, and will see a screen like this. It is divided into 6 panes: TOP - FTP command history TOP LEFT - Local Computer directories (Your Computer) TOP RIGHT - Remote Computer directories (The hosting Computer) BOTTOM LEFT - Local Computer files (Your Computer) BOTTOM RIGHT - Remote Computer files (The hosting Computer) BOTTOM - Queue of FTP commands (Files being transfered etc.) On web sites hosted with Hostaway, all your web site files are located in the "htdocs" directory. Double click on the "htdocs" directory in the top-right pane to view the files as shown in the bottom right pane. To edit your testimonials, they need to be downloaded onto your computer first. To do this, browse to a suitable location (such as your desktop) by going through the directory tree in the top-left pane. Then, simply drag the "testimonials.php" file from the bottom-right pane, to the bottom-left pane. Right click on the copy of "testimonials.php" that you have just copied onto your computer, and select "edit". The file will open with notepad. You can copy a previous entry, paste it, and then change it to suit your new testimonial. You can also change the order, as the testimonials are shown from top to bottom, as in the file. Once you are happy with the changes, save the changes, and go back to Filezilla. A dialogue will ask if you wish to upload the changed file. Click "Yes". To update your banners and photo galleries, go to the "galleries" directory in the bottom right hand pane, and drag and drop picture files from your PC into the filezilla program. You can create directories to put them in (which in turn are seen as the gallery name in the menu of your web site) and candelete/rename as necessary. Please note that some web servers may not accept files over 1.7 MP, so these will have to be resized first.
